Who we Are

We are religious Sisters of the Institute of Our Lady of Mercy – usually known as Sisters of Mercy.
We began our ministry in the UK in 1839 with the first convent being established in Bermondsey, London.
Our primary ministries from the beginning were teaching and nursing.
Nowadays you will find us in a variety of ministries including:
Advocacy
Counselling
Support for Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Chaplaincy work in hospitals and prisons
We have worked on missions in Kenya, Peru, South Sudan and Romania amongst other works…

Works of Mercy

Many of our Sisters quietly work in their local areas addressing local, national and international needs.
The Spiritual and Corporal Works of mercy underpin our ministries and social outreach.
